Updates to Our Bonus Token System: Creating a More Level Playing Field!

We’re excited to share an upcoming enhancement to our bonus token system designed to foster an even more dynamic and equitable environment for everyone on our platform!

We initially introduced the bonus system to help authors of niche or challenging-to-read books stand out and incentivize reviewers to explore these unique reads. This intention remains at the heart of our platform. Additionally, we wanted to provide high-volume reviewers a way to increase the review rate of their books to help utilize a surplus of tokens.

However, we’ve also noticed a trend where massive bonus token amounts (larger than we ever thought anyone would add) are offered on some books. While we understand the desire to gain visibility, this can inadvertently create a situation where newer members, who are still building up their token balances, find it difficult to compete for reviews alongside more established members.

To ensure a level playing field and create more opportunities for everyone to receive valuable reviews, we’re implementing a small but impactful adjustment to the bonus token system. Moving forward, the maximum bonus you can offer on a review will be capped at 50% to 800% of the listing cost of the review option you select for your book, depending on the word count. Based on the estimated read time, this update will allow books with higher word counts to be more competitive with low word count books on a token reward basis.

We believe this update will bring several exciting benefits:

• Greater Opportunities for New Members: This change will empower our newer authors to attract reviewers more readily, fostering a more inclusive and active community.
• Increased Reviewer Engagement: By making a wider range of books more attractive to review, we anticipate a greater influx of engaged reviewers who are genuinely interested in discovering new authors and genres, vs. just taking books with massive bonuses.
• Focus on Genuine Interest: We encourage reviewers to seek out books that truly resonate with them. When reviewers are passionate about a book, they are more likely to provide insightful and helpful feedback.
• Change to Token Listing Base: Our token listing fees have not changed in over 3 years, but after review, we can see that books with a large word count are not offering a high enough token amount to incentivise reviewers to take the extra time to read and review. Since members who have high word count books can no longer compensate with extremely high bonuses we’ve adjusted the token listing prices as follows:

Our goal is to cultivate a community where every author has a fair chance to receive thoughtful reviews and every reviewer has a wealth of interesting books to choose from.
